Upcoming Devotions

This week (2/6/22 through 2/12/22) we will be having no Daily Devotions.  The original author of these fine devotions only wrote four weeks of Epiphany Devotions. The Epiphany Season, because of the changing date on which Easter falls, can be up to six weeks; this year it is only 5 weeks.  During this pause in the Daily Devotions, we are providing you with the upcoming schedule of devotions for the next nine weeks, ending on Easter Sunday.

The “gesima” weeks are sometimes called the Pre-Lenten Season:

  • Septuagesima Week (2/13 – 2/-19) – A word in Latin meaning approximately 70 days before Easter.
  • Sexagesima Week (2/20 – 2/26) – Approximately 60 days before Easter.
  • Quinquagesima Week (2/27 – 3/5) – Approximately 50 days before Easter, and the last Sunday before the Lenten Season begins.  Ash Wednesday is 3/2/22.

The Lenten Season is six weeks, leading up to Easter Sunday:

  • First Week of Lent (3/6 – 3/12)
  • Second Week of Lent (3/13 – 3/19)
  • Third Week of Lent (3/20 – 3/26)
  • Fourth Week of Lent (3/27 – 4/2)
  • Fifth Week of Lent (4/3 – 4/9)
  • Sixth Week of Lent (4/10 – 4/16) – This is Holy Week, including *Maundy Thursday (4/14) and Good Friday (4/15).

*The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment” (See John 13:34-35).

Easter Sunday is April 17.
