CONVERSION

  § 143. Conversion 1 in a stricter sense of the term is the work of God 2 by which man is, through the Gospel, transferred 3 from a state of sin and wrath and spiritual death, in which by nature all men are,4 into a state of spiritual life and faith and grace 5 in which alone the sinner can enjoy the benefits of Christ’s redemption.6 — Conversion in a wider sense 7 is the process whereby man, being by the grace and power of God transferred from his carnal state of sin and wrath into a spiritual state of faith and grace, enters upon and, under the continued influence of the Holy Spirit, continues in a state of faith and spiritual life.8

  Acts 5:31 Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

  John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.

  Colossians 2:12 Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him from the dead.

  Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

  Acts 11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

  Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

  Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
