COSMOS

§ 56. Cosmos, or the world, in a narrower sense of the term, is the aggregate of inanimate and irrational things which God made in the beginning of time1 to provide for rational beings an abode where,2 the conditions under, and the means by which they might subsist and fulfill the purposes for which they have their being.3

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.


2. to provide for rational beings an abode where,

Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.


3. the conditions under, and the means by which they might subsist and fulfill the purposes for which they have their being.

Genesis 1:28, 29 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
