184 – Eternal Damnation


 ETERNAL DAMNATION
  § 184. The punishment of the damned, after the consummation, will be everlasting shame 1 and torment 2 of body and soul 3 with the devil and his angels 4 in the fire of hell; 5 but while the punishment of all will be endless 6 and severe, 7 the degrees of torment will differ with different degrees of guilt in different individuals. 8

1. The punishment of the damned, after the consummation, will be everlasting shame … 

  Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.


2. …and torment

  Luke 16:23–25 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

  Matthew 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

  Isaiah 66:24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

  Revelation 14:10–11 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

  Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

  II Thessalonians 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.

(48) Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

  Matthew 26:24 It had been good for that man if he had not been born.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

  Luke 10:12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

  Matthew 23:13 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom and heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

  Luke 12:47–48 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
